I do believe in NiGHTS. I believe in me.
~ Elliot, NiGHTS storybook.

Elliot Edwards (エリオット・エドワーズ Eriotto Edowāzu) is one of the two deuteragonists in NiGHTS into Dreams. He is a young teenager from Twin Seeds whose favorite hobby is playing basketball. He is one of two Visitors that possesses the Red Ideya of Courage.

Character Information[]

Physical Appearance[]

Elliot has short blue hair, blue eyebrows, fair skin and blue eyes. He generally wears a dark blue t-shirt with green lines on the sleeves, a upturned pale blue collar with yellow hues, green capris trousers with yellow trim, green socks and dark blue shoes with pale blue trim and a blue watch on his left hand.

Personality[]

Very little of Elliot's personality is shown in the games. However, his Japanese bio states that Elliot is not just good at basketball, but he is also very intelligent and perfect at everything he does,[1] specially at his school.[1] His Japanese bio also states that Elliot likes being adored and respected,[1] and because he wants to look cool to other people, he often leads himself to troubles.[1] In the NiGHTS into Dreams secret ending, Elliot and Claris are transported to Spring Valley after Wizeman's defeat, and while Claris fainted to all of the lights and explosions, Elliot managed to resist everything and was just fine when he found himself in the valley. This suggests that Elliot is also very strong and resistent.

History[]

NiGHTS into Dreams[]

Story

Elliot was outside playing basketball with his friends and showing off his good moves when a crowd of High School students rush into their game. They steal the ball from Elliot and proceed to slamdunk it with ease. They walk away laughing at Elliot, humiliating him in front of his friends.

Later that night, Elliot has a nightmare about the events that happened earlier that day, when the bullies turn into monsters, taunting and laughing at him. Elliot flees from the horrible nightmares until he reaches a light at the end of a tunnel. According to the game's manual, a Nightopian meets up with Elliot and begs him to help save the dream world[2] (that's is never shown on-screen though). The Nightopian introduces NiGHTS to Elliot and together they head off on a journey to stop Wizeman the Wicked.

Gameplay

The player can select Elliot and play his story before Claris; however, Elliot's levels are considered to be harder than Claris' and it's recommended that the player already has some experience with the game to play them.

After selecting one of Elliot's dreams, Splash Garden, Frozen Bell, or Stick Canyon, he'll fall into that selected world. Upon arriving, he'll be attacked by Nightmaren minions, who'll take all his Ideya away except the Red Ideya of Courage. The player shall process further in the game by using the Red Ideya to merge with NiGHTS and complete the level.

The player also has the option to complete the level without NiGHTS at all, This opens up possible level exploring that is otherwise not reachable when playing as NiGHTS, such as the elevator on Stick Canyon's tower or the snow train in Frozen Bell. However, the player should take note that an Alarm Egg will be sent out after Elliot and if it catches him, it will cause a game over.

Twin Seeds

In Elliot's last dream, he falls down onto a cloud that floats around the Twin Seeds Tower. NiGHTS can be seen flailing for Elliot's attention but pressing any buttons will trigger Wizeman to send Elliot flying off onto a broken floating piece of asphalt. From here, Elliot jumps off the side into the city light below. Elliot shoots back up with his Red Ideya following him, enabling the player to complete the stage as normal. The only difference is that there is no alarm egg and if the player run out of time before collecting Elliot's Ideya and freeing NiGHTS, it is an instant Night Over.

Once Elliot recovers his four lost Ideyas, he will try to rescue NiGHTS, who is imprisoned at the top of the Twin Seeds tower. However, an invisible force shield will prevent him from doing this. At this moment, Claris will appear and together, the visitors are capable of saving NiGHTS. As the trio is reunited, NiGHTS, Elliot and Claris, merge together into two NiGHTS and fight against Wizeman. After defeating their creator, NiGHTS mysteriously disappears, leaving Elliot and Claris alone in the dream worlds.

Ending

Efriends

Elliot finds his courage in himself to overcome his fears.

After waking up, Elliot meets up with his friends for another basketball game. When they arrive at the court, the high school bullies from before have already claimed it. Elliot's friends suggest coming back later but after battling through the darkest of his nightmares, Elliot finds the courage to stand up to the older bullies. The game is almost over and Elliot's team is down to one but he doesn't lose hope. Instead, he finds the strength within to power through the older kids' tricks and makes his way up the court, leaving the bullies speechless. Seconds before Elliot reaches the hoop for a throw, the main bully decides to step in and wall him off. Reminiscing about his dreams of flight, Elliot feels himself jumping over the bully and making himself a slam dunk, impressing everyone and winning the game.

Secret Ending

Elliot carrying Claris

Elliot carrying Claris in his secret ending.

In the secret ending, an extra cutscene plays after the Wizeman's boss battle, showing Elliot being transported to Spring Valley. Elliot looks around and sights Claris fainted. Once he reaches her, Elliot carries Claris on his arms and leaves her under a tree. Shortly after, Elliot starts fading away because he is waking up. As soon as Claris wakes up, Elliot turns his back to her and disappears.

The normal ending cutscene will then replay, showing Elliot waking up and defeating the older kids in a basketball game. Then, an extra cutscene will play, showing what happened after this scene. After the game, Elliot decides to walk downtown where the 100th anniversary of Twin Seeds was being held. Elliot watches the parade for a moment before walking up to the famous Twin Seeds tower. The sun bounces off a sign for a musical being help and the glare catches Elliot's eye and for a moment he could have sworn he saw NiGHTS' face. He takes it as a sign and decides to take a peek at the Musical taking place inside. Immediately, Elliot recognizes their star singer, Claris Sinclair, from his dreams. His eyes meet her and the game ends with Elliot and Claris being inexplicably transported back to Spring Valley.

After the credits, Elliot is shown at his home, where he is about to sleep. At his window, it is possible to see a familiar purple figure posing on the spire of the city's famous building.

Elliot and Claris were walking around Twin Seeds during christmas, wondering why the people in the crowd look so rushed, when they noticed that the star from the Twin Seeds christmas tree is missing. This leads Elliot and Claris to go into a quest to find the missing star.

Gameplay

Just like Claris, Elliot's single level is Christmas Spring Valley. However, his version of the level has an unique path and different items and enemies placement. Once Elliot arrives into the Nightopia, he'll be attacked by Nightmaren minions, who'll take all his Ideya away except the Red Ideya of Courage. The player shall process further in the game by using the Red Ideya to merge with NiGHTS and recover all of the Ideyas. Once the player beats the level, it will be revealed that Gillwing is with the missing star and the player will need to defeat him in order to recover it.

Ending

Elliot and Claris, with the help of NiGHTS, recover the missing star, but they soon discover that the whole story was just a dream and wake up, not understanding what was that star. In the waking world, Elliot and Claris prefer to not talk about the dream, but they do know something amazing is bound to happen.

The next day, Elliot and Claris meet each other in town. However, Elliot slipped on some ice and bumped into Claris. The crowd watches this as Elliot helps Claris up and laughs. The game later ends with Elliot and Claris looking at the gigantic christmas tree in the middle of the city.

In the second shot of Will's opening FMV in NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, a boy whose hair looks just like Elliot's can be seen to the right of the shot, bouncing a ball on his knee.

Elliot also appears as an unlockable skin for Will.[3] To unlock him, the player must collect all of the 60 dream drops. However, this does not change the cutscenes.

After the fight, Reala returns and reveals to Elliot that NiGHTS is a Nightmaren, which shocks Elliot and makes him panic. Reala takes this opportunity to make them unfuse. After being unconscious for a while, Elliot, who's still shocked over the fact that NiGHTS is a Nightmaren, finds himself alone at top of a cold and dark cliff, when he starts hearing NiGHTS asking for help. NiGHTS tells Elliot to trust them and dive into the darkness under the cliff. Despite being very afraid, Elliot notices Nightopia being destroyed by the Nightmarens and remembers that NiGHTS is his friend. Trusting NiGHTS, Elliot jumps into the darkness and starts glowing red and flying by himself. Elliot's ideya made Reala flee and NiGHTS was released from the prison.

As NiGHTS and Elliot were celebrating Reala's defeat, Wizeman attacked and wrapped both of them into deep darkness. However the trust between NiGHTS and Elliot caused them to glow red and it created a tiny light to which they dive towards. When they came closer to it, the light absorbed all of the darkness and Wizeman fled, saving Nightopia from the Nightmarens.

NiGHTS Archie Comics[]

Elliotpanel

Elliot in the NiGHTS Archie Comics.

Elliot starred in the NiGHTS Archie Comics series where his story in the first three issue is identical to his story in the game. In the first Issue, Elliot and Claris are the perfect dreamers of the century. Just like in the game, Elliot's basketball game gets interrupted by a group of older kids and the head bully, Roger Wilkeah, laughs at Elliot while humiliating him. Afterwards, Elliot hears Claris singing and decides to follow the song, he climbes her school wall and spies her through a window when Snuze appears in front of him, scaring Elliot and making him fall. Snuze explains the NiGHTS situation to Elliot, who accepts to help. He meets up and merges with NiGHTS and are attacked by Gillwing. As they were about to fight, NiGHTS leaves Elliot with Gillwing to assist Claris, who's being attacked by Puffy. As Elliot can't fight Gillwing by himself, he runs into an Alarm Egg to wake up.

In the second Issue, Elliot and NiGHTS switch bodies. While NiGHTS is in Elliot's body in the waking world, Elliot is in NiGHTS' fighting Gillwing in Nightmare. After defeating Gillwing off screen, Jackle attacks him, but NiGHTS returns to their body and once again leaves Elliot to help Claris fighting Gulpo, but quickly comes back for Elliot. It's at that moment that Jackle tries to convince Elliot to give his red ideya and in exchange, his dream will come true. However Elliot refuses and finishes the fight.

In the third Issue, Elliot is attacked by Reala, who tries to get his red ideya, but he is able to trick Reala by giving him a basketball disguised as the red ideya. As he escapes, Elliot meets up with Snuze, who reveals to Elliot that he can now fly by himself. As he is flying, Elliot meets up with Claris and together, they release NiGHTS and defeat Wizeman once and for all. After the battle, NiGHTS becomes drained of energy and almost dies. According to Snuze, the only way to save NiGHTS is if Elliot and Claris' dreams come true. As Elliot wakes up, he defeats Roger, accomplishing his goal. Later, he goes to the Twin Seeds Centennial Parade and hears a voice coming out of the tower which he starts following. Elliot enters the tower and finds out it's Claris. They befriend each other and their energy revives NiGHTS.

In the fourth Issue, NiGHTS comes to the waking world and both Elliot and Claris start receiving visions of it. Elliot receives a vision of NiGHTS being chased by policemen while he was at school and decides to go help them. He meets up with Claris and they start looking for NiGHTS in a parade when they are both caught by a policeman called Officer Oswald for skipping out school. As they are in the police car, Elliot and Claris find Roger along with NiGHTS, who's slowly getting its energy drained.

In the fifth issue, Elliot and Claris escape from the police headquarters and receive a vision showing NiGHTS tired and laying on the ground inside Roger's house. When they arrive at Roger's house, they meet up with Napp and Snuze, who make Roger fall asleep so they can go inside.

In the sixth issue, Elliot and Claris find NiGHTS nearly fading away and they must bring them to the Twin Seeds tower, where there's a portal to Nightopia. Once the trio arrives at the tower, NiGHTS tries to reach the portal by thelself when a sudden explosion at the tower combines with the energy of the ruby on NiGHTS chest and creates a portal that allows Reala into the real world. NiGHTS and Reala start fighting, meanwhile Roger meets up with Elliot and Claris who are watching the fight. At that moment they convince Roger to stop giving Reala his dream energy. Without Reala being powered by Roger's dream energy, NiGHTS manages to escape and returns to Nightopia. Afterwards Elliot, Claris and Roger make one last appearance running away from Office Oswald, who was about to apprehend them again while they were distracted.
